Cardington Road - Phase III
The third and last phase of the Cardington Road Project was awarded to George J. Igel Co., Inc. Construction on the final phase began in June of this year with completion set for the first week in October.
This third phase of the project will extend Encrete Ln to the north to connect with Cardington Rd. from the east Encrete will then extend further north to the new entrance to the Montgomery County Transfer Station. The traffic signal at the intersection of Dorothy Ln. and Encrete Ln. will be upgraded to include left turn lanes and signals. Encrete Ln. southbound at the Dorothy Ln. intersection will have a dedicated right turn lane to accommodate the large amount of traffic turning right toward Springboro Pike. The new intersection of Cardington and Encrete will be signalized to accommodate the large amount of anticipated truck traffic from Yowell Trucking, Mayberry Moving and Storage and Wal-Mart as well as the possible traffic increase from the almost 60 acres of industrially zoned developable property being opened up by this project.
The road is 3 lanes of 10-inch thick concrete pavement with 12 inches of cement modified recycled asphalt base. Water and sanitary sewer are being installed in preparation of development along the new road.
The project funding is aided by grants form the Ohio Department of Development and Montgomery County. The total of grant funds is 1 million dollars. The total project cost is 2.6 million dollars. The remaining 1.6 million dollars is being paid with general funds from Moraine and assessments to the property owners along the new roads.
The new road configuration will also ease congestion on Springboro Pk. at the Industrial Estates intersection from all of the traffic entering the County facility. It will also ease some of the problems with the Dixie Dr. and Cardington Rd. intersection.
